moondog hiding out on skye... photo by elliot newsome

23 December 2003
I found moondog at a bus stop outside Highgate tube station earlier this year. I kept forgetting to look at the website until now, but moondog has been following me around all this time, making me happy whenever I notice him and remember how much he loves me. I'm currently in Kuwait, where moondog and I have been residing for six months, enjoying the weather; next month I will move to Hyderabad, India. The dog will come along, of course. I'll send pictures when I get the chance.

hay i found your tag maybe a year or six months ago and thought it was rather sweet, bought your book and will read it later, looking forward to it meanwhile my site www.gentlyperverted.com might amuse you, or not, as the case may be later

I am a spanish girl and last december i was living in London. I was in Angel tube station and i found a little cardboard pet on the floor. It was love at first sight so i picked it up and i put it on my pocket to carry it always with me. It was one year of happy love with my pet, but is today the day when i realize that you exist. Who are you? I think i love you.

hello. I found moondog in Hoxton. Moondog loves me because i'm different. i think that's a pretty good justification for loving me. This has confirmed in my mind that Hoxton is one of the very best places there is. If only it was in west london... but hey, at least moondog is now in west london. I would very much like to spread Moondog's love amongst west londoners. Would moondog please send me a members' pack? Thanks! x

Hey hey - I found one of your tags at The Bedford, Balham during a Nizlopi gig. The slippery little fella had worked its way under my pint glass. I pocketed it feeling blessed. Since then I've had a startling run of good luck. Could it be that the little cardboard square is a talisman with magical properties? Probably not. I'll keep it about my person for the time being though.

I just came back from Amsterdam and landed myself in Liverpool Street Station. Still high from dutch weed I was terribly hungry and then I saw those scones calling me: "eat me Jud, eat me". I got closer and then I saw it! Just in front of them, nicely leaning against the glass there was a funny tag calling me too: "take me Jud, take me". So I went home with a big smile in my face, the tag in one hand and the the scone in the other. What a good welcome!

hi lloyd, thought i'd send you this photograph i took of one of your tags. i actually dropped this myself, but as it was on a remote corner of the isle of skye in the hebrides, scotland i figured it'd be unlikely that the finder would have a camera and thought you'd like to see where these are being dropped. does this count as the most remote place that's been tagged ? what's the weirdest place anyone's found a tag ? not sure where about you live btw, but i went in a new shop in shoreditch at the w/e that's just opened opposite dreambags and saw they were selling your stuff. cool and the gang man ! keep on trucking.

3 October 2003
the tag i found was hidden in a hole in a fence at a bus stop by highgate tube station in north london.i was staring around and saw a note hidden very discretely in its place. put it back for the enjoyment of others to find and ment to go on the website. i got the name wrong and was on my way back home from college the next day and found it again.just went on the website this afternoon. the site's brilliant! in future im gonna look out for more just for the enjoyment of finding them. its back in its place so if anyone going by the muswell hill road bus stop in highgate is reading this(i doubt it) then have alook by the phone box and you'll see it.

heya i found one of your little moondog loves you cardboard tag things (the ones with the dog's head on the front that says moon dog loves you). i was on the floor near a bus stop outside the nickel and dime off licence just up upper street from angel station. i was going to the bus stop to get a bus to i forget where and i saw it on the floor and it was kinda grubby but i picked it up cos it looked cool (im always doing that). seeing as it was done in correction fluid and pen i just thought someone had doodled it and discarded it but i kept it cos i thought it was cool. i thought id see if the website was real sometime or other. but i completely forgot about it for about a month till yesterday when i logged onto your site and its so damn cool! i looked all around it and stuff and i thought id email to say is found a tag thingy and i want stuff!!! lol, badges and ness :) im broke at the moment but how do i get stuff when i have money???

hi my names connie and i found one outside whsmith in muswell hill on a lamppost. i just wanna say i can make scones!!

22 July 2003
Hey Lloyd!... My friend found one of your MoonDog tags whilst we were on our way to see Bjork at the Hammersmith Apollo, he was so excited and I thought it was wonderful too! The second time we saw her he found two more! and you're right, it has become a sort of addiction. Whenever I'm in London I'm always hunting for new tags but haven't found anymore yet. .... I would love for you to send me some tags and I will happily spread the love in various locations, I will also wear my badge, eat more scones and definitely be at bod on 28th. I have listened to samples of the bands/artists that will be there on the night and they sound great. I regularly check your site and I love it! Everything is so cool and unusual... I love your ideas and your website is fantastic, I am very excited about the bod event and would be thrilled to meet you.... Robot monkey slaves are a must, you'll never cope on your own, I'm sure there are a few robot monkey slaves at my school, they could help =) I would be very interested in any new books you create, let me know when they're finished and I'll purchase them. I think what you're doing is fabulous, it's a great way of getting your art seen and I'm sure it is/will be extremely popular. It's always nice to find something secret. Do you like Banksy's art? My friend and I went to his show/exhibition on Sunday, it was brilliant. I like the way you both create art that anyone can see or find
Bonnie.

22 July 2003
Hi lloyd, I live in 2 houses but I will give u my london address, I also live in bristol so if you send me a few I can bring the love of moondog to the great city of bristol. Think its a great idea and if u mail me details of the club nite I will try and get along.I have already mailed lots of people the site address my girlfriend george was with me when i found the tag and she has already joined the club. My day was brilliant yeaterday as i spent as much time as i could looking at your site in between my mundane day to day dribble of a job and it amused me greatly so much so I am going to perfect the baking of the humble scone. My family is from devon so scones have been a steady part of my life since birth they r the base of the english establishment that is the cream tea. You Rock

Dear Lloyd, I am writing on behalf of my boyfriend who found the tag suspiciously placed atop his book shelf in the living room of his small New York apartment. He ignored your tag for several days until I insisted that we follow up at www.moondoglovesyou.com. I have several suspects in mind from whom the tag might have come. The case is afoot. Onward and upward.
Yours,

Hey lloyd i found another one of the moondog tags late friday night, when i was walking back from central london. I found the tag in old street near the dragon bar tucked into a street sign. This is the forth tag i have found, two of which i have given to friends. I felt a little cheeky taking it as i have one already, but it is a different tag to the one i have, so i had to take it to join the other moondog tag i have. Looking forward to the party. All the best Mark.

I have to say that it felt like I had found a treasure (pls don't tell anyone!) - it made me feel quite warm and special. I'd really like to continue the passing on of moondog love. Thanks Lloyd, and Thanks moondog too!

Hi lloyd.. my first encounter with moon dog love was just a few short days ago, when i found a 'never poke star fish' tag on an art school table within the confines of Christs Hospital art school, ruled by the evil yet very knowledgeable (in pots anyway) dictator MIKE. I shouted out of sheer delight for someone to tell me where this heavenly tag was sent. A boy with jet black hair and a quiet shrug turned to me and said the words 'moondog loves you' nothing was said for 2 days. On the eve of friday, somewhat wild in these parts ,i was alone, quickly and somehwat shiftitly walking up a road known to the locals as 'Harry's alley' when the young dark haired boy siddled up to me out of the darkness and slipped what i could only determine to be a piece of cardboard in the dimness of that night. When i enetered my strange abode fondly named the fox, the bright lights revelaed to me that this piece of cardboard was , yes, a moon dog tag, sending love to me in this far corner of the globe. It filled my with happiness and smiled for two whole hours, til my cheeks ached, then i went to bed. THank you Please send me some tags so i can share the love
Thank you so much BYE xx

I found one of your lovely tags tucked behind a pipe whilst waiting for a train at Liverpool St. tube station. It must have been fate that led us there as we soon discovered that we were on the wrong platform to get to Victoria (subsequently we missed our coach back home). Anyhow, your tag is now residing in Bournemouth creating a small but worthy ripple of interest. Thank-you.

Dear Lloyd, Thanks for the message - I found you on the Bjork fan profiles' site [I am "shape"], and really liked your work. I also like your "crazy schemes": alternative ways to reach a public, these commerce-driven days, are very exciting... I'd be delighted to receive my goodies and leave any extra cards you may wish to send me at select bookshops and record shops (can't promise much about bars and clubs! ;-)) in Athens [leaving them just ANYWHERE would be quasi pointless, I suspect]. Keep up the good work! Thanks and best wishes,

I left my bag in newport pagnell services. i was travelling southwards along the m1. newport pagnell is my favourite services. i once bought a watch there from some car salesmen cashing in on sweeteners after a product launch. on that occassion, i was travelling north, to nottingham. this time, i was heading for london, from the far away towns. whenever i make a journey of longer than 2 hours, i take a flask, because i like good coffee and hate paying for not good coffee. i drank some good milky coffee in the car park, but wanted nourishment as well. i bought a mixed berry muffin, not the best quality, a little bit plasticky. BUT, strange things can happen. inside the muffin was a small rectangle of cardboard with a picture of MOONDOG and a beautiful message. i will never return to the far away towns. god bless you, moondog.

Hi! Why were my sister and I pulled into going on a spontaneous walk around our part of London, on a Thursday night in May at 9pm??? Maybe it was because my sister wanted to get out of revision... maybe it was because I was bored of staying in all day with naff all to do... but at the end of the night at around 11pm at Borough Market, we found our true purpose. Our divine path, our Holy Grail. WE FOUND A MOONDOG TAG!!! It was stuck behind a Borough Market sign, very inconspicuous, and obviously meant for us to find it. And now we have joined that ever growing group of Moondog lovers, sharing our love along the way! Yay! Please send us some tags so we can help others find that perfect moondog love!

London Bridge, Monday morning. Not the greatest time or indeed place. But then.... 'Hey, what's this? moondog loves you...' I was confused. Intrigued. Perplexed. And finally consumed with the joy that I'm sure only fellow tag finders experience. My life now has meaning. This is the way it is supposed to be. Placing the sacred tags behind advertising hoardings and other hard-to-reach places is now my mission. I can of course only do this with your help. Please, please, please let me get what I want. Send me some tags. I will love moondog forever because moondoglovesme. And you, fellow reader........
Many glorious thanks from Simon.

Dear guy who draws cartoons on cardboard and leaves them on the streets for me to find, My friend and I were backpacking through Germany and I was amazed how much graffiti there was, in English. I didn't notice it at first, but then I thought, "This graffiti really speaks to me." I thought collecting trinkets and souveniers were for suckers and housewives so I collected beer costers and punk stickers of defience. My favorite was a small sticker of David Hasselhoff giving us the thumbs up. The title above him said, NIGHTWRITER. I used to watch that show as a kid, but I don't remember David Hasselhoff writing anything. One day in Berlin we came across a small cardboard tab that had a cartoon on it, drawn in what seems like white-out and sharpie. Two, people? I guess, are facing each other, one has a baby. The one without says, "He certainly has his father's eye." I laughed and took it and have stuck it on my wall beside my computer frame with my collection of beer costers. These trinkets might make me a sucker, but I still like looking at them. I see now that this a movement. A Moondog movement that is sweeping the world, one idiot who picks up trash/graffiti/found art at a time. Send me some more tags and I'll pass them around LA. I'm sure no one's done this in LA yet.

He found your moondog tag under the bridge on Old Street, shoreditch, shoved into a teeeeeny hole in the wall - and he gave it to me cause he already has one - (see april 1st). I would love to help you spread your moondoggie-style love. Thank you!!

hello, a work colleague found one of your tags at London Bridge (now proudly displayed at work along with all the other interesting detritus we collect). Like your site - first thing i thought when i saw it was 't-shirts' so glad to hear they're in the pipeline. And toys too, oh goody. i would like some of your free stuff please! Including tags. Shame i've had most of my hol's this year, not going away till end of summer, otherwise i could have tagged Montpellier, New York and Carcasonne. Bum. Anyway, i'm willing to dog-tag anywhere i find myself until then. thanks

Lloyd It is an honour to have discovered your website. I think that the way which you are trying to publicise your work is novel, fantastic and, above all, cool. I discovered your website because of, well its a long story... Right. My name is Richard O'Brien, and I am studying law at Durham uni, way up north. SO imagine the excitement when I'm walking through Boston (as you do) and I notice a sign in a bar about some geezer called 'Moondog O'Brien; bail bondsman and first class ambulance chaser. As a result, I acquired the nickname 'Moondog' from my mates. Quite a cool nickname; very original and unusual. One of my mates was in London this Easter (registering for the London marathon), near Bank or Temple he thinks. He happened to spy one of your fantastic 'dog tags' attached to a lamppost. He said he actually thought it was a trick by me, and that I was near by. But anyways, he gave me the tag for my birthday (incidently, it was the best present I got - it made me laugh so much!). I checked out your website yesterday, and here I am now... I thought I was the original and one and only, but obviously not - It is fantastic to know that an alternative world of Moondog has been created, and is expanding. Keep up the good work I'd love to spread the word further up here (and also to New Zealand; I'm 90% sure I'll be going there at the end of the summer for a year), so PLEASE can you send me some more dog tags. Remember that Moondog loves you too
Richard

Hey yo! I found one of your little tag things about 5 days ago durring a trip to london. I think it was the the Canary Warf tube, but don't bet anything on it my minds kinda flopsy. I kinda thought it might be a cult, or some pretensious grafiti artist's cry for attention, but now that i'm back home ( in Canada...oh, canada) and have come here I now understand that I don't really understand what moon dog is. But it does look cool, and the tag is neat, alors kudos a toi.

Lloyd, I found your tag outside the Dulwich picture gallery, at the end of January. I picked it up on the sidewalk, looked at it, realized it was art, and put it in my pocket. I was on the first leg of a trip to the UK and the continent. In Italy, I bought a new coat, on sale, and relegated the old one, neatly folded, to the bottom of my case. Yesterday, I wore it for the first time since February 14. Chatting with a friend, I felt the chilly March breeze a bit too bitingly. Stuffing my hands into my pockets, I rediscovered your tag. Later in the day, my visit to your site was a most delightful and entertaining distraction. Thank you. If I didn't covet it so, I would be tempted to drop your bit of cardboard someplace in my neck of the woods, in order to pass on the pleasure. Instead, I shall wear my old coat and introduce moondog to everyone I talk to.

Found the 'MAKE SCONES NOT WAR' tag in Trafalgar Sq during the anti-war demo on the 22 of March. My ex-girlfriend told me to look out for your tags before she left London. It was great to finally find one of your tags. I'm looking forward to taking some of the tags back to Winnipeg with me when I go back for a visit in July.
Keep spreading the love.

Hello Lloyd, I never ever ever buy scones - in fact I don't think I've ever done so.
However, whilst drifting down the aisles of Tesco earlier today my hand gravitated towards a pack
and they somehow found their way into my basket [and now my stomach]
I've just discovered your site and it's as if the scones [now inside my gut] bought me here. How odd eh?
Well, I like your work - how did you get a book made ?
Who prints it / distributes it ? I'd love to make a book.
Cheers
Jon

Karma works in mysterious ways...that's why its worth getting out of bed...everyday. on my way in to the studio this morning...your tag caught my eye and I had to pick it up off the top of the mailboxes that line the lobby of our building down here in Soho. I brought it into the studio and tried to take it away... I love your site and your wit... thank you for brightening my day/morning.

ok so I have to admit it there are other things that get me out of bed in the morning... and this morning it is scones as I was on my way in search of good caffeine....I was faced with the big morning debate....croissant, muffin, bagel or scone....typically I avoid scones here in the states but figured, what they hey, why not, let's try it today....hoping that it would be scrumptuous....not bad...but they aren't very good cold. the subliminal nature of your web info works....in a very obvious sort of not so subtle way... can we get more tags to leave around NYC?

Dear Moondog Type Person, I found one of your tags in Borough Market in London. It was a Sunday and I was walking round with my Brother trying to buy over-priced organic veg and vaguely hoping to bump into Jamie Oliver and tell him exactly what I think of him (not nice). But being a Sunday the market was closed. Then spent the next 1/2 hour arguing about which building was the one they used for "Lock Stock and Two Smocking Barrels", finally agreed on one (must have been the right one as your tag was there) when I found your tag. Picked it up and then spent the next hour getting paranoid that you'd probably laced it with LSD or Sarin gas, eventually sussed it was probably safe and have been carrying it around in my pocket for ages until now. Love the tag, love the site - appreciate the Haring-esque nature of it all (hope the comparison doesn't piss you off). Keep up the good work. Cheerz,
Sam (2 suits) Fleming

I may love Moondog even more than he loves me! My sister is the one who found one of your cards in London just last week. She lives in Portland, Oregon USA. She told me about him (I live in Connecticut, USA). Is there any way that I could have a few cards to spread around New York City? The whole world needs to know Moondog now more than ever, but I understand if his true affinities lie in the UK exclusively, he is THAT special, after all. I visit the city quite often, so it wouldn't be long before Moondog was cavorting with new international pals. I am a teacher of 12 and 13 year olds, so I need this happy distraction!!!!!!!! ;) Somehow I crave scones these days..... Ahh, beautiful scones....mmmmmmm. My deepest gratitude for bringing Moondog into this world. I love your website.
Deborah

Hi thanku for introducing me (and my guy!) to your crazy and wonderful moondog world. I found a little tag tucked behind a tube station map. (forgotten which station though- it was a very long shopping day!) It caught my eye and I found him adorable. To be honest, I did think that it was a joke or that if I logged on it might just be a letdown.............. thankgoodness I was wrong! The tag now has pride of place on a shelf and I do check out the website quite frequently. Enjoy creating such gorgeous images. They make us smile!

Dear Moondog, To find your flyer on a dank Saturday evening waiting for the circle line at tower hill for an endless amount of time was an absolute godsend, it was like someone was watching over me as my wait added an endless delay to the appointment that was ahead of me at liverpool street. Stuck inside the frame occupying an advertising poster it was quite inconspicuous and what kind of person am I to investigate what looked like a piece of discarded chewing gum from a distance - to live from the deritus of urban life is not too far away from my psyche. Being somewhat a novice with the internet I was glad to discover your website but have not discovered any of your publications but know as with my original flyer only time will let me discover what is to come - thank you.
Chaz
