Welcome to the site
dedicated to Shea Seger. She describes her music as "mutt dog...
bluesy pop with beats". Shea's first album The May Street Project
was released in the UK last year and is certainly a promising debut from
the 21 year old singer-songwriter from Quitman, Texas. Having studied
musical theatre in Virginia, Shea came to London and made the album with
Martin Terefe and Nick Whitecross.
She released her first single, Last Time, in 2000; a heartfelt ultimatum
about relationship and change. The video on the CD is worth the price
itself. This year she released her second single, Clutch. Clearly being
marketed on her country girl image, she has her own distinct musical style
which some have compared to Sheryl Crow and Alanis, but is closer to those
of Edie Brickell, Tracey Chapman or Natalie Imbruglia, This album brings
together a broad spectrum of musical styles to create something sounding
contemporary and original.
Her songs have an inescapable charm and positivity. There are modern beats
with bluesy emotion. We get orchestral sweeps and moments of quiet contemplation.
Shea has toured with Toploader, James, David Gray and most recently John
Mayer.
