MUSIC

Current Albums:
1. St. Germain: Tourist
Tourist is a chill-out or groove-based record you can play all day or evening. There’s just a great feel to the album. You can listen to it all the way through. I really like it a lot.
2. Dr. Dre: 2001
I love that record for no reason really. Dr. Dre tells a story and the beats are hot. I put it on when I am in my hotel room or if I am listening to my headphones. I can listen to it at the beginning or the end of a day.
3. Mos Def: Black on Both Sides
Mos Def is a classic writer for my generation. He has a grasp on writing that's completely different and is a much better storyteller than most other artists today. His stories combine with his music to become one.
4. Radiohead: Kid A
I think it's a great move for them to be so bold with this album. I embraced it more than I thought I would. Radiohead is just one of those groups who continue to inspire people; they procreate inspiration. In 10 years or so, these guys will still inspire me.
5. Phoenix: United
Phoenix has a retro, smooth, disco type sound. Plus they have great songs. I heard about them on my tour and thought they were great.

Classic Albums:
1. Jimi Hendrix: Are You Experienced?
I think it's amazing when musicians can tell a story and that is what he did. Jimi could tell a story by the way he played music, without singing. He had a grasp on telling a story more than anyone else. His songs make me cry.
2. Little Feat: Waiting for Columbus
The album cover has a maroon, sexy tomato lady smiling in a hammock with funky lettering. That’s enough to like the album but it’s also got Lowell George who’s an amazing talent. And the songs "Fat Man in the Bathtub" and "Willin' " are just classic songs.
3. Bob Marley: Sun Is Shining [Golden Stars]
No matter what day it is, you can listen to Sun Is Shining. It's my favorite Marley album. The music makes me feel good. He has so much emotion in his songs- what more can you say about Bob Marley.
4. Johnny Cash: At Folsom Prison
It is one of the best gigs Johnny Cash ever did. He brought a lot of things to the prison and gained some from the prisoners as well. He also tells a story with his music. Some of his experiences emulated
5. Tom Waits: Nighthawks at the Diner
I love Tom Waits' voice - he cracks me up. I can see the show in my head and I want to be there with him.

Songs:
1. Eve: Let Me Blow Ya Mind
It has a good hook and is a great pop song. I'm a huge fan of collaborations, especially when they work well like this one. This song definitely works with Gwen Stefani and Eve. You can learn a lot when you collaborate with another singer.
2. Missy Misdemeanor Elliott: Get Ur Freak On
Missy is another Virginia girl - I spent about 7 years there. She’s a talented, smart woman and I would like to work with her someday. It would be collaboration out of our similar roots and background.
3. Ron Sexsmith: Cheap Hotel
When I heard this song the first time, it was the saddest song I ever heard. His voice reminds me of Roy Orbison and the song sounds different every time he plays it live. He’s so talented - an artist who fell through the cracks and deserves so much more acclaim.
4. Phoenix: If I Ever Feel Better
This particular song makes you feel good. It wakes you up first thing in the morning. Phoenix sets your mood for the day- a laughing gas type mood.

BOOKS

Books:
1. Harper Lee: To Kill a Mockingbird
First of all, I read the book more than once, which I normally don't do. It's the one book that the film version didn't destroy. As you read the book it becomes important for the reader to find out what will happen next. I want to name my child Scout after the character.
2. Sheri Reynolds: The Rapture of Canaan
It's based on a story of a young girl, not quite Amish, but some sort of tribe in the communes. It goes through her teen years and what happens to her. At the time, it was good for me to read.
3. Dave Eggers: A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius: Based on a True Story

FILM

Movies:
1. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
I travel with this movie all the time. I love the characters because I am a people watcher. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest has some fantastic characters. All the performers in the movie deserved Oscars. The cast was amazing all the way through.
2. A Clockwork Orange
3. Magnolia
I love the pace of Magnolia. I was literally on the edge of my seat, for the first time in a long time. Everything in the movie clicked.
